About 300 fantastic bamboo lanterns at Shozenji Workshop「Take Akari」Sunday, 16th (Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture)

The 5th Shozenji Studio Take Akari, an event where visitors can enjoy the fantastic scenery of handmade bamboo lanterns lined up in the parking lot, will be held on Sunday, February 16 at Shozenji Studio in Shimo-Shozenji, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture.

The lighting ceremony will be held at 5:00 p.m., with about 300 bamboo lanterns handmade by local residents and volunteers lined up along the prefectural road around the Shozenji Studio, the venue of the festival.

Pork miso soup, curry, and hot dogs will be sold inside the workshop, and grilled marshmallows and frankfurters will be sold near the outdoor bonfire. Other events include an exhibition of works by bamboo lantern artist “slow pace” and a workshop on “Fluid Art,” an art form using acrylic paints. In addition, this year, the “Cabbage Challenge” (first 30 people/ entry fee 100 yen) will be held, where participants can win a cabbage as a participation prize. Participants will be challenged to hit snowballs against sliced bamboos, and if they knock down the bamboos, they will receive another cabbage.

Parking is not allowed in the Shozenji Workshop parking lot on the day of the event. Please use the parking lot of the Joetsu City Gas and Water Department’s Shozenji Water Filtration Plant in Iwaki, Joetsu City. A free shuttle bus will run between the Shozenji Workshop and the water purification plant from 3:00 p.m. to around 6:30 p.m.
