Buckwheat flowers are in full bloom on the Hikarigahara Plateau in Itakura Ward, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. They will be in full bloom for a while, so it is good to visit during the four consecutive holidays. Please see the flower field taken with the drone.
The buckwheat variety “Toyomusume” is planted on 10 hectares on a site that used to be a ranch. This year, the long rains in July delayed sowing by one month, so the flowers began to bloom this month, one month later than usual. The buckwheat harvest will begin in mid-October. Normally, new buckwheat will be offered at the Itakura Fureai Festival in November, but this year it has been decided to cancel it, due to the coronavirus. For more information on buying buckwheat flour, please contact Mr. Ichimura (090-3242-9019) of the “Dogata no Sato Special Product Production Association”.
