The “Marine Sports Festival in Nou” will be held on Saturday, September 14 at Benten Iwa Beach in Nou, Itoigawa City, Niigata Prefecture, where visitors can experience the fun of marine sports for free.

This event is being held for the first time to familiarize people with marine sports, as the sponsor, the Marine Sports Foundation, is involved in marine sports training at Niigata Prefectural Maritime High School. This is an event that both children and adults can enjoy, with a variety of experiences on the water and on land.

There are five types of activities that can be experienced on the water, including “boat cruising,” which can be enjoyed from the boat, “water motorcycles,” in which you ride behind an instructor, “canoes,” which are close to the sea surface, “SUP,” in which you stand on a board and paddle, and “outrigger canoes,” which are highly stable. On land, there will also be a water safety course, a workshop by the Maritime High School, a guided “Benten Iwa Geo Tour” to explore the origins of Benten Iwa, and a “Kodomari Town Walk” in Kodomari village, which has recently attracted attention for its exotic port town-like atmosphere.

In addition, there will be food stalls at the venue, including black yakisoba noodles.

The number of participants and time required for each varies. Participation is free of charge, but a participation fee is required for “Kodomari Machiaraku” only. Registration will be held at the venue on the day of the event. The morning tour starts at 9:30 a.m. and the afternoon tour starts at 12:30 p.m. The program will end when it reaches capacity.

【Water Activities】
①Boat cruising （Capacity: 5 persons）
Boarding time: approx. 20 min.
Participation requirements: Minimum age: 5 years old. Must be able to wear a life jacket properly.
Children under 4th grade must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older.

② Watercraft （capacity for 1 person）
Boarding time: approx. 10 min.
Participation requirements: Elementary school students and older. (Minimum height of 140cm) Must be able to sit on the seat and have both feet on the deck.
The instructor pilots the boat and the passengers board in the back seat.

③Canoe （capacity of 1 to 2 people） *Instructor will not be on board.
Boarding time: approx. 20 min.
Participation requirements: Elementary school students and older. Children under 4th grade must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years old.

④SUP （capacity: 1 person） *No instructor on board
Boarding time: approx. 20 min.
Participation requirements: 4th grade elementary school students and older.

⑤Outrigger canoe （capacity for 2 persons） *Instructor on board
Boarding time: approx. 20 min.
Participation requirements: Elementary school students and older. Children under 4th grade need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Houses on steep cliffs, maze-like alleyways. The atmosphere of Onomichi and other exotic port towns has been attracting a lot of attention recently. We will take you to some of the best places known only to the locals.

Fee: 500 yen/person (only adults are charged, students and infants are free)
