The steam locomotive “Coppel” is now available!

Kubikino Rail Park, located in Kubiki Ward, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, will hold its regular open house on Sunday, September 15. In addition to the opportunity to experience a ride on the precious Koppel, there will be many new activities for children.

Kubikino Rail Park is a facility that preserves locomotives and carriages of the Kubiki Railway, which was closed down more than 50 years ago in 1971, and allows visitors to learn about the history of the Kubiki Railway, which was active for more than half a century. The park is managed and operated by the Kubiki Treasure Preservation Society, an organization established 20 years ago to revitalize the town by using local treasures, and is open to the public on a regular basis.　*For more information about Kubikino Rail Park, click here.

The Open House is a popular event that attracts people of all ages every time, as it allows visitors to experience riding in a retro train car with a retro atmosphere that evokes a bygone era. This year, the popular ride-along experience and a variety of other events are planned. The most noteworthy event this year is the exhibition of a giant Plarail tower. In addition, there will be a Plarail play corner.

■Contents: The highlight of the event will be the display of the giant Plarail tower and the setting up of the Plarail play corner (9:30-14:00). Other events include a ride on a former Kubiki Railway car (9:00-15:00), a picture-story show by the storytelling circle “Wonderland,” and other activities, and a car photo session (12:00-13:00).
