At the east exit of Joetsu Myoko Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, a lounge was partially opened on July 6th for people waiting for taxis and buses.  This is the first facility of its kind located around the station.

The lounge was built by local IM Taxi for not only those waiting for taxis, but also people who use buses and the train station.  The building is a wooden, one-story building with an area of about 90㎡. Cedar wood produced in the prefecture was used as the building material.  The design was done by Yasuyuki Kawanishi, who designed the resort train “Setsugekka” of the Echigo Tokimeki Railway.

The front of the building is entirely covered with glass windows to be able to feel a sense of openness.  There are about 10 sofa seats and chair seats, a nursing room and a tatami space for kids in the facility.

The kids’ space can be separated with a vinyl sheet to prevent viruses.  In addition, there are 4 outlets that can be used to charge mobile phones, and free Wi-Fi is also available.

Mr. Sakahara, the IM Taxi Senior Managing Director, said, “We hope that this lounge can provide our customers and other passengers with a relaxing and enjoyable place to wait.”

There is always one staff member at the lounge to provide tourist information.  We also have an app that can translate more than 30 languages and support foreign tourists.

The IM Taxi lounge is partially open for 3 days from 6th to 8th July.
The grand opening will be the following week. The lounge is open from 9am to 5pm (closed on Sundays).
Mr. Sakahara said, “We hope that this lounge can be put to good use, and provide travelers with a good experience.”

In addition, IM Taxi is considering to make drinks such as coffee available in the future.
