Cherry hunting started this weekend at Yashiro Farm in the Wada area of Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. It’s the only popular spot in the city where you can enjoy cherry hunting, and large cherries are growing this year as well.

At Yashiro Farm, 400 cherry trees are cultivated in a field of about 180 square meters. There are 9 types of cherries in total, 80% of which are Sato Nishiki. Others are Summit and Javolai.The number of fruits is smaller than last year, but it is full of nutrition and the fruit is big this year. Most popular is Sato Nishiki, which has a good balance of sourness and sweetness and is characterized by sweet and sour taste. As of the 10th, Sato Nishiki has a sugar content of 23 to 25, and every variety grows sweeter every day.

When collecting cherries, do not pull them straight but instead of pulling them straight so that you don’t damage the branches.

The entrance fee for cherry hunting is 500 yen for 4 years old and over, 400g including tax for 100g. It will open on Saturday, June 13th of this season. Open only on Saturdays and Sundays until the end of June. Hours are 9 AM to 4 PM.

This year, as a measure against viruses, we will limit entry to about 4 or 5 groups. You also need to wear a mask. The all-you-can-eat program that was held in the last week of every year will not be held this year.
