After a year of postponement, the art festival is about to begin!
Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2022, a world-class art festival held once every three years in Tokamachi City and Tsunan Town, Niigata Prefecture, will open on April 29 (Friday, national holiday). This year’s festival will be the longest to date, lasting 145 days.
The Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale is one of the world’s largest international art festivals and a precursor to the regional art festivals that have been held throughout Japan in recent years. During the festival period, the Echigo-Tsumari region, including Tokamachi City and Tsunan Town, will be the stage for artworks created by artists from around the world to be exhibited, as well as various performances and events.
The festival started in 2000 and has been held every three years since then. Last year, the eighth edition of the festival was postponed due to the Corona disaster, and it will be held again this year. The Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale has been held for about 50 days in the summer, but this year it will be held for 145 days, the longest in its history, and will run until November.
