The “NIIGATA Nasu(eggplant) Summit”, an event where farmers will showcase the charm of eggplants produced in the prefecture, will be held on Saturday, 17th at “Arurun no Mori” in Daidofukuda, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture.  To complement this event, a special plate featuring special eggplant dishes will be offered at Arun no Mori for two days, July 17th and 18th.

This is a special “Luxury plate of carefully selected eggplant dishes ” only available for 2 days.  There are many kinds made with Joetsu’s “Maru Enpitsu Eggplant” and “Koshi no Maru Eggplant”.

The plate was created by Hiroki Nobuta, the owner of “Ishokuya YAGAIYA” in front of Naoetsu Station.  Mr. Nobuta said, “I thought about the theme of seasonal vegetables centering on eggplants.  I really wanted to make the best use of the color.  I use several cooking methods that do not impair the color of the eggplant, such as pickles with a sour taste and stew that makes good use of the colors.”

There are five eggplant dishes: chicken with an eggplant herb marinade, steamed eggplant with a special flavored miso and ground meat, eggplant soaked in seasoned stock with sweet and sour pickles and special condiments, cold ratatouille with summer vegetables, and red wine compote with eggplant and apple.

The “Luxury plate of carefully selected eggplant dishes” is 1,000 yen including tax.  Rokka no Sato at Arurun no Mori, will be served  this dish for two days on the 17th and 18th, limited to 30 meals on both days.

Mr. Nobuta said, “Joetsu Maru enpitsu eggplant is delicious, but it isn’t so well known.  It has a great taste, but it used to be said that the shape was not suitable for pickles.  From now on, I want many people to know how delicious eggplant tastes, whether it is baked, steamed, or pickled.”

On the day of the “NIIGATA Nasu Summit” on Saturday, 17th, about 10 types of eggplants from all over the prefecture will be displayed for sale.  JCV Joetsu Cable Vision will live-stream on the local information site “Joetsu Myoko Town Joho“.  Thr broadcast time is from 1:30 pm.
