A mystery-solving event in collaboration with the popular anime “Crayon Shin-chan” will begin on October 4 (Fri.) at the Joetsu City Aquatic Museum Umitari in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture.
Since the year before last, Umigatari has been holding a mystery-solving event during the fall to deepen interest in and understanding of the SDGs and marine environmental issues while having fun.
This year, the event is collaborating with “Crayon Shin-chan,” an anime that is very popular among people of all ages. The “Kasukabe Defense Force and Mystery of Humanity’s Fish Plan meets Joetsu City Aquatic Museum Umigatari” was planned to learn about marine creatures and environmental issues while playing an original Umigatari riddle-solving game. This is the first time in Japan that a mystery-solving game based on Crayon Shin-chan will be held in Umitagari.
The key visual for the event is an illustration drawn specifically for this event. Members of the Kaskabe Defense Force are wearing costumes of popular creatures in Umigatari, such as Magellanic Penguins, Cherry Dungeness Fish, and Clownfish. The background of the illustration depicts the exterior of Umigatari.
The story is about five members of the Kasukabe Defense Force who come to the aquarium and wear special costumes developed by an ayashii man that allow them to talk with sea creatures, and they listen to the words of the fish to decipher the codes and stop the ayashii man’s plans.

Those who clear the event will receive one of seven different original can badges at random.
In the area of the museum where the banded dolphins, cherry dungeness fish, Japanese sardines, clownfish, and Magellanic penguins are exhibited, there will be panels where the main characters of Crayon Shinchan explain the ecology of the creatures, and a photo spot where visitors can enjoy taking pictures with the panels of the characters. Photo booths where visitors can take pictures with the panels of the characters will also be set up. Original goods will also be available at the museum store on the first floor.
In conjunction with this event, Shin-chan will come to Umigatari on Saturday, October 5 for a “character meet and greet” where visitors can enjoy taking pictures together. Shin-chan will appear randomly throughout the museum at 1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.
This mystery-solving event will run from Friday, October 4 through Sunday, April 13 next year.
Enjoy the mystery-solving event at Umigatari and have fun learning about marine life and environmental issues!
