Kubikino Rail Park” in Hyakkenmachi, Kubiki Ward, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, well known for the “Coppel” train, will be open to the public on Children’s Day, May 5. In addition to the opportunity to experience a ride on the precious Koppel, there will be many new activities for children.
The Kubikino Rail Park preserves the locomotives and carriages of the Kubiki Railway, which was closed down more than 50 years ago in 1971, and allows visitors to learn about the history of the Kubiki Railway, which was active for more than half a century.
The Kubiki Treasures Preservation Society, an organization established 20 years ago to revitalize the town by using local treasures, manages and operates the museum, which is open to the public on a regular basis. The first open house of the year will be on May 5, Children’s Day. For the first time, a “Koppel Locomotive Classroom” will be held, where visitors can learn about Koppel while touching the steam locomotive, and a family concert of railroad music will also be held.
