January 21 is the birthday of Kenshin Uesugi. Special edition stamps for the 495th anniversary of his birth are on sale (Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture).

January 21 (Tuesday) is the birth day of the warlord “Uesugi Kenshin”. In conjunction with this, on Tuesday, January 21, special “castle seals” for Kasuga-yama Castle and Takada Castle will be on sale at the Joetsu City Archaeological Center and the Joetsu City Museum of History in Niigata Prefecture.

Lord Uesugi Kenshin was born as the youngest son of Nagao Tamekage, the Echigo governor. This year marks his 495th birthday.

The special edition sold this time differs from the usual one in that the name of the castle is in gold letters. It also features a stamp commemorating the 495th anniversary of his birth and a stamp featuring the image of Bishamonten, a goddess to whom Lord Kenshin was deeply devoted.
