Naoetsu Attraction Photo Contest 2022 Call for Entries! (Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture)

A photo contest featuring the port town of Naoetsu district in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, has begun again this year. We are currently accepting entries.

The purpose of this contest is to promote and deepen the photographic culture of Naoetsu by communicating the charms of Naoetsu through photographs. The theme of the contest is “Take a Picture and Discover the Charm of Naoetsu.

Naoetsu is a port town located in the northwestern part of Joetsu City, facing the Sea of Japan. It is also known as a strategic transportation hub and the birthplace of the prefecture’s railroad. The sunset from Nata Beach is beautiful, and the Umigari Aquatic Museum is located along the coast, attracting many visitors from within and outside of the prefecture.

Why don’t you take your shutter off in such a charming town of Naoetsu?

Eligible works must be wide 4×4 photos (digitally processed photos are not accepted) taken in Naoetsu Ward between 2021 and the deadline. Entries are limited to three per person and are free of charge. Entries must arrive no later than Friday, November 18. Please attach the entry form to the lower right-hand side of the back of the photo and send it to the Joetsu Photographic Society by mail.

All entries will be exhibited at the Naoetsu Photo Fair on December 3 (Sat.) and 4 (Sun.), and an awards ceremony will be held on December 4 (Sun.). Winning entries will be used to promote Naoetsu and each will receive a prize.

Excellence Award: 5 prizes worth 5,000 yen
Honorable Mention Award: 10 prizes worth 3,000 yen
Honorable Mention: 5 prizes worth 1,500 yen品

This is an opportunity to take photos of the scenery, events, cultural assets, and other attractions of Naoetsu and show them to the public. Mr. Miyauchi of the Joetsu Photography Federation says, “Now that it is difficult to travel outside of the prefecture due to the Corona disaster, we want people to take photos of their hometown, Naoetsu. Recently, we have seen an increase in entries from high school students and other young people. We hope that many people will apply.

■Deadline: Must arrive no later than Friday, November 18
■Size：Wide 4×4 (digitally processed images are not accepted)
■Number of entries: Up to three works per person (Anyone from all over Japan is eligible to apply)
■Filming period: Unpublished works photographed between 2021 and the deadline (the shooting location must be in Naoetsu Ward)
■Entry fee: Free of charge (Application form must be attached to the lower right corner of the back of the photo)

■Date: Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4, 9:00-17:00
■Venue: Civic Plaza 2F Gallery C
■Award Ceremony: December 4 (Sun.) 14:00~.
*Prizewinners will be notified in advance. Winning works must be submitted as data.
