August 10 is “Lodging Day” – Fireworks Display at Akakura Onsen! (Myoko City, Niigata Prefecture)

Wednesday, August 10 is Lodging Day. In conjunction with this, a fireworks display will be held at Akakura Onsen in Myoko City.

Lodging Day (August 10) is a commemorative day established in 1992. This year, fireworks will be set off in various locations in the 47 prefectures of Japan in an effort to make this Lodging Day widely known.

A fireworks display will be held at Akakura Onsen in Myoko City on Wednesday, October 10, from 8:00 p.m. for 15 minutes.

The following day, for the first time in three years, the “Bon Festival of Lanterns” will be held at the Akakura Onsen Central Square. Although the festival will be shortened in scale compared to previous years, Akakura Onsen children’s taiko drum performances will be held every day during the festival, and a raffle drawing will be held for hotel guests. A takoyaki (octopus dumpling) store will be open at the festival site.

Mr. Masafumi Nakajima, Chairman of the Akakura Onsen Tourism Association, says, “Akakura Onsen will hold a fireworks display on August 10 in honor of ‘Lodging Day. The whole Akakura community is united in this fireworks display to make Akakura Onsen a healthy place in spite of the continuing impact of the new coronavirus and the difficult times we are going through. On the day of the event, there will be performances by Akakura Onsen children’s taiko drummers and small refreshments, so please come to Akakura Onsen where the night breezes on the plateau are cool and refreshing.

■Date and time: Wednesday, August 10, Akakura Children’s Drum Festival from 19:30, Fireworks display from 20:00 (about 15 minutes)
In case of rain, the festival will be postponed to Thursday, August 11.

■Period: Thursday, August 11 – Sunday, August 14, 19:30 – 20:30
