Two largha seals are set to join the Joetsu City Aquarium Museum Umigatari in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. It will be on display at Furendo Pool from Saturday, the 8th of this month. With the addition of the two new seals, Umigatari will now have four largha seals.
nanoha(Female, 12 years old)
Arashi (male, 11 years old)
The two animals that came to Umigatari were Nanoha (12 years old), a female, and Arashi (11 years old), a male. The Nagoya Port Aquarium in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, proposed a breeding loan, and we came last November.
A breeding loan is a system in which zoos and aquariums cooperate with each other to lend or borrow animals free of charge in order to increase the number of rare animals without extinction. This is the first time for us to do a breeding loan as Umigatari.
Koke (female, 25 years old)
Jiro (male, 38 years old)
At Umigatari, we have always kept two largha seals, a female Koke (25 years old) and a male Jiro (38 years old). The two new arrivals have been spending time in the backyard since November to get used to their new environment. Two months have passed since then, and now that the animals have become accustomed to their environment, they will be exhibited together with the two animals we have been keeping.
There is no fixed term for a breeding loan.It will be renewed every year, and unless there are any problems, the animals will be kept at Umigatari from now on.The life span of a largha seals is about 40 years.
